Core themes in Rita Marhaug's artistic production has been long-standing investigations of family relations and identity. The many aspects of sensing, beauty and decay, life and death, -are other strands in her practice, often linked to current ethical dilemmas.
Marhaug (b. 1965) often do collaborations with artist colleagues. Her latest work was with Terese Longva. Traci Kelly is a long-term collaborator as well as Nisa Ojalvo, Karen Kipphoff, Gillian Carson and Robert Alda. She holds an MA in fine art from Bergen Academy of Art and Design, KHIB (-89) and a BA in history of art from the University of Bergen, UiB (-96). Since the early -90's she has participated in a great numbers of solo- and group exhibitions and performance festivals both in Norway and internationally. From 2001 until 2013, she worked as professor at KHIB, Dept of Fine Art, (now part of UiB). With her studio in C. Sundt’s gate 55, Marhaug now works as freelance artist. Between 2014 and 2018, she held the position as artistic leader of Performance Art Bergen, (PAB). For the last five years, she has been head of board at Trykkeriet, centre of contemporary printmaking in Bergen.
