(POST)
The Nordic House, Reykjavik, Iceland Welcome to the opening of the exhibition (Post), 7th June at 6pm. The curator and artists will be present during the opening. The multimedia art exhibition (Post) presents artwork created between 2005 and 2022 by mainly Nordic artists who question and reflect our time and our future. An underlying theme of these diverse works is the anthropocene – the most recent period in Earth’s history when human activity has started to significantly impact the planet’s climate and ecosystems. Most of the works depict post-industrial structures that raise questions about how we might think of coming times. Curated by Ruth Hege Halstensen, this exhibition at the Nordic House takes on urgent questions in striking ways, featuring work by a stellar lineup of artists: Nana-Francisca Schottländer (DK) Katie Paterson (GB) Marte Aas (NO) Rita Marhaug (NO) Anna Líndal (IS) Rúrí (IS) The exhibition is part of Reykjavík Arts Festival 2024. Acessibilty to Hvelfing exhibition space is good. A ramp leads up to the main entrance of the building and from there an elevator goes down to Hvelfing. There is also a staircase leading to the exhibition space outside. Accessible and gender neutral restrooms are on the mainfloor. Entrance to exhibitions in the Nordic House is always free. Trykk i sanntid 04: KARBONSYKLUS
Tou kulturhus Stavanger, Arkivet and Bruksrommet 1. of February-3. of March -24 Print in Real Time is a five-year long, collective project initiated by the artists Åse Anda, Kjellaug Hatlen Lunde and Rita Marhaug in 2019. Starting from the basic material carbon, the project brings together practicing graphic artists from all over the country to give poetic expression to the inscrutable paths of carbon. “Carbon footprint, carbon capture, carbon storage and carbon cycle” are well-known and crucial terms debating environment and climate changes. The substance itself – the element carbon – is also a fundamental factor in the material history of graphics, where carbon-black is a main ingredient. Through a defined and up-to-date theme, Print in Real Time opens up for individual, creative interpretations carried out in the spirit of the collective. Print in Real Time has invited Bent Erik Myrvoll, Elin Kjøsnes and Rita Marhaug to interpret the theme of the carbon cycle in their own way. The exhibition will also show four joint works by 50 artists. |

Stories. The world is more complicated than our truths about it
https://opowiesci-stories.pl/ Stories. The world is more complicated than our truths about it is an interdisciplinary art project financed by the Norwegian and EEA Funds, realized from April 2023 to March 2024 by the Mazovian Museum in Płock in partnership with Kunstbanken, a cultural centre located in Hamar, Norway. The project is inspired by the oeuvre of Franciszka and Stefan Themerson, avant-garde artists connected with Płock and appreciated all over the world. Since 2021, the Mazovian Museum in Płock has been presenting a permanent exhibition “Themerson Gallery” dedicated to them. The two outstanding artists’ work was interdisciplinary in character, it included experimental film, animation, painting, graphics, book publication, literature (prose, poetry, books for children, theatre, opera, philosophy and experimental photography. Not only its international dimension is important for us, but also the local one. Stefan Themerson spent his childhood and youth in Płock, where Franciszka's mother also grew up, whereas the couple spent a significant part of their life in England, moving from Warsaw via Paris to London. Where does the title "Stories" come from? Storytelling is the oldest way of communication between humans as social beings. Stories can be told in various ways. People like to hear stories because there is real life in them. Every person and every work of art carries a story. By creating art, we share our experiences, feelings and knowledge with others. By openingup with all sincerity, we build trust, which is the basis for real and creative cooperation. In the project, the title "Stories" play the role of a universal language (method) by means of which the partners propose to enrich the experience of participating in art, its understanding, reception and creation. The subject matter of the stories is all-encompassing, understandable/accessible and inclusive. We begin with the individual and finish with the universal. Art has an inherent quality of establishing communication/transferring information, which gives a different status to our experience. |

HENDELSER VED HAV
Gyldenpris Kunsthall, (NO) opening 8th of March 2023 Hendelser ved hav (Incidents by the sea) is an exhibition that presents artworks by 6 artists living in Western and Northern Norway / Sápmi: Agnete Tangrand Elin Mar Øyen Vister Hanne Grete Einarsen Fernanda Chieco Rita Marhaug Terese Longva We are visual artists currently researching materials and subjects related to rural contexts, as opposed to the urban and new technology, which often dominate contemporary culture. Not just the theme, but also our choices of places to live have deeply influenced our production. Modernity versus tradition and cultivation versus nature are the common themes for the works displayed at the exhibition. We intend to create a space of reflection for the viewers to experience a productive interface between past and future. Without being sentimental or nostalgic, we intend to present a broader picture of our lives, here and now. |

Bones that Whisper Through the Years opening 26th of August 2022 JJPR+H78 Isfahan Province, Esfahan, Marnan, Iran About Aknoon Art Gallery: The Gallery of visual arts has been opening since 2012. This gallery entered the field of art with the aim of working in the field of visual arts and holding exhibition with creative and young amazing artists. This gallery has been installed with more than one hundred artists in the field of painting, photography and installation. Iranian and international artist have had the experience of coopration. The point that distinguishes this gallery from other galleries in Isfahan is the new and bold look at the modern art of the artist of this city and discovering the talents of young. Represented in Iran by Tazkar Projects Tazkarprojects.com |
It is an honour to be included in TAZKAR's selection of artists:
TAZKAR is a space for the promotion of artists whose art presents a theoretically different conceptual understanding and forms of expression. The word different refers to the artist’s individual potential in applying a quite “personalized”* approach. This trait builds up to a sort of inquiry and theorization in arts and it helps to view art’s public praxis from a private point.
Tazkar is an exclusive representative of its artists in Iran and introduces them based on a certain schedule and analyzes the capacities of their works according to the fields of theory and criticism. The approach is adopted to increase abilities for a critical communication, creative reception and in general ideas of a different space for conversation in arts. The aim behind studying foreign artists beside the Iranian artists is to introduce the non-local practices in line with this experimentation. These artists, according to their contextual and academic differences, principally differ in their conceptual sensitivities or techniques from the local artists. Although the differences are shown implicitly, they do not make the main goal. Those artists are targeted who at the same time display the differences and are independent in their art episteme and approach to the surrounding. What is sought is to recognize and promote the independent ways of looking in arts and toward what we identify as “reality.”

BABE, BRISTOL ART BOOK EVENT
with Codex Polaris, (UK) 22-23rd of April 2022. Imi Maufe represented Codex Polaris in BABE: BABE was a little different this year. For the first time it wasn't held at the Arnolfini in the centre of Bristol, but rather at the Art School Campus - Bower Ashton - which is out of town, but the space was amazing - 108 stands filled room after room. There was less public than usual, but the public that were there were interested and informed about artists books, so they were easy to talk to and very very receptive to the work shown on the Codex Polaris stand. Imi at our stand, the sircle-shaped book is my latest object in the series of Stella Polaris. |
CARVING THE LANDSCAPE
A 3 week stay at GEDOK with Kjellaug Hatlen Lunde: working together, presenting our perspectives from Lofoten and Bergen, Norway, and finally showing our work results 5th of May. GEDOK Stuttgart is an undogmatic network of artists; a cross-disciplinary cultural center; a place for exchange and encounter; a platform for the most varied forms of artistic expression. Supported by the commitment of the members, GEDOK brings out a program of events three times a year with exhibitions, concerts, readings, performances, workshops, lectures, studio visits and parties, in which members and non-members, women and men are involved. Since the gallery is not commercial, it also offers the artists a space to easily share ideas, concepts and experiments with the public. GEDOK Stuttgart is institutionally funded by the art sponsors of GEDOK Stuttgart, the City of Stuttgart and the State of Baden-Württemberg. GEDOK is interdisciplinary. It unites artists from the visual arts, applied arts, performing arts, from literature, to dance and music – all under one roof. The guiding principle of GEDOK Stuttgart can also be derived from this open structure: Exchange. https://www.gedok-stuttgart.de/ photoes from GEDOK web site |

This day of action can be with or without context, but for the recognition of all people’s rights to share the public space together, in solidarity with each other, in respect of each others rights to share the same public space, as well as the time.” Everyone is welcome to join, participating with performative actions or as spectator. ITS (IN) OUR NATURE
Utstillingens utforming består av grafiske verk, installasjon og video. http://www.baerumkunsthall.no/utstillinger.html Image right:"Herbarium Arctica" from ongoing series of monoprinted books with handwriting. ( U N) F A M I L I A R at M. K. Ciurlionis National Museum of Art, Kaunas Lithuania, together with with Alda, Carsson, Kipphoff, 6th of August til 6th of September-15.
Negotiating familiar and unfamiliar obstacles of everyday life, often requires the individual to examine, dismantle, rebuild and at times reinvent the familiar, to regain familiarity. Observation of the self in familiar surroundings are subject to examination, and attempts at making sense of the world in a wider perspective manifest in artistic practice. While the resulting two and three dimensional artistic works, speak of individual experience in personal language, they can be seen to contain a more general expression of wonder and bewilderment, shock and awe in this age of estranged, hot and cold, dirty and clean living. Marhaug has continued her work with a large “skin-like “fabric first tried out in Berlin September -13. The scale of the beige fabric is now about 200 m2. Another material introduced during the winter has been furs. Marhaug has earlier worked with soft sculptures made from leather, originally from old furniture. For Kaunas she has produced 3 soft fur sculptures. Still spending energy, end joy in drawing parallel to her wide art praxis, another connected series of work will be live drawings from objects and props used in her performance situations. Co-curator Egle Komkaite Baltusnikiene The project is supported by: Bergen kommune, Billedkunstnernes vederlagsfond and OCA: Office of Contemporary Art, Norway Photos: Rita Marhaug, entrance and Marhaug's sculptures "The Familiar" |

PAO Festival 2014
"Visual Poetry" 14th and 16th of November Artist talk and Skin Deep, performance Oslo “It’s not easy to talk and do things at the same time”. These were the opening words of Rita Marhaug’s presentation: which offered an informative and deep insight into her work, research and philosophy. Short actions combined with spoken fragments of her research made her work accessible. The sculptural aspect and her interest in Surrealism were clearly visible. Simple actions like standing blindfolded on a pile of white sheets of paper, changing into the outfits which she uses in other performance works and finally sitting on a table and blowing white powder into a match box- all creative replacements for words. The visuals transformed from words in which meaning was open to different interpretations for the observers. As art is not made to be understood, but rather to create a dialogue between image and perception, Rita Marhaug’s ‘artist's talk’ offered an interesting conversation which translated the complex universe of her work into an approachable dictionary. Poesie Marseille 2014
7th of November Skin Deep, performance France Curator: Marina Mars http://poesie.marseille.free.fr/ The room was darkened when the audience entered the space. A huge piece of fabric covered the floor like moss. A body was covered by the fabric and was positioned at the end of the room on a small podium. The sombre atmosphere silenced the audience. Slowly the fabric was moving towards the silhouette of the body, the moss turned into a river which softly floated backwards to its well. While pulling the fabric towards the body, the fabric changed into a huge skin with wrinkles until the body seemed to imbibe the fabric until it completely disappeared. The body slowly raised up and was now sitting on the podium. Cautiously this figure placed a book on its lap. When the book was opened, a red light appeared softly out of the pages like a story coming alive between the pages. As the pages were calmly turned, the red light became stronger creating a dream-like image which was surrealistically beautiful and mystic at the same time. Leaving the red glowing book on the podium, the figure stood up, cloaked itself in the fabric and slowly walked towards the audience. While passing the audience one could see that the head was covered with fur which heightened the surrealistic qualities of this image. The Performance from Rita Marhaug combined mysticism and surrealism and created a universe of poetical images which transported the viewer into spheres of the unknown and the subconscious where words have no meaning and only images can be used to comment upon existence. Dimanche Rouge: Focus on Norway March 19th, 2014, 7-9pm, Free- Presentation/Performance at Maison de Norvège March 20th, 2014, 5-10pm, Free- Round Table and Exhibit at Plateforme Gallery March 23rd, 2014, 5-9pm, 5 Euros- Performances at Le Générateur Dimanche Rouge presents FOCUS ON NORWAY, an event introducing a selection of performance artists based in Norway. The Focus series aims to explore the diversity and thrust of performance art internationally. In partnership with PAB (Performance Art Bergen) and Le Générateur, Dimanche Rouge will present a selection of five Norwegian performance artists from Bergen and Oslo, curated by Rita Marhaug and Agnes Nedregard. The five artists Kiyoshi Yamamoto, Anja Carr, Franzisca Siegrist, Rita Marhaug, and Agnes Nedregard, will perform at Le Générateur on Sunday March 23rd, 2014, 5-9pm. The performances will explore the theme “Civilization and Human Nature.” Since the human body is used as a medium, performance artists tend to improvise and take risks resulting in uncertain and unpredictable actions. These actions emphasize primal, pre–linguistic modes of experience, which point back to nature. The Norwegian performances will explore the tension between the “natural” and “civilized” within human nature. Performance at 6:15PM sharp Second Skin Presented by NOoSPHERE This three day exhibition at NOoSPHERE Arts presents the work of Rita Marhaug in collaboration with Nisa Ojalvo and focuses on the dialogue of interface – the meeting point of subjects and their selected materials and processes. For Ojalvo this is the meeting point of her fleshy eye and the camera’s mechanical body to touch with the performance gestures she and Marhaug instigate. For Marhaug it is the poetic qualities of skin – at once recto/verso and the tactile quality of drapery as membrane. Together the artists create a trajectory of intersubjectivity through the process of collaboration… Where does one end and the other begin? Marhaug’s performance Second Skin will be brought to NYC audiences by NOoSPHERE. In the main space Nisa Ojalvo’s photographic works of collaborative performances with Marhaug will be on view, with further drawing works by Marhaug presented in the rear space. Friday 27th of September Traci Kelly and Rita Marhaug performed Slipping Slipping is a texture and an undoing, a friction in passing, a series of bodies that have lived in architectures of clay. Before then, after this, now then… Slipping is time, a moment between revelation and concealment, between standing still and moving on. It is a series of fluid and dislocated poetic gestures that grapple with what it means to remain. On a landscape of moulds two female performers consider what it is to be cast, to ingest and ooze and find form, as they resist their place in a post-industrial landscape that still yearns for the ready-made.
